UA (Used Off Assignment)

  • Due when you travel outside the milepost limits listed on the job bulletin. You can see each job’s bulletin by placing an X next to the job on your bid card. They will not pay a UA if you mention that you made a shove move anywhere in the UA claim comments.

PH (Penalty Hours of Service Relief)

  • Due when you perform service on your train, and then relieve another train. I know this happens a lot, especially around Birmingham. We’ve been able to get these paid through claims conferences for the last few years, but lately they’ve been turning them down if the train you’re relieving is inside yard limits. We’ll have to send the denied claims to the General Chairman to get paid through an arbitrator.

  • Due if you’re called out of the hotel in relief service.

PE (Penalty)

  • Used as a catch-all claim for when a violation of the agreement occurs and there isn’t a specific claim for it in the system.
